Spring Awakening & Allergies: The Intestine in Constant Use

Dr. Sylvia Püttmann

The days are getting longer and everything is awakening from its winter slumber. The sun invites us to spend more time outdoors. However, the early spring flowers are also beginning to bloom, and for many people, allergy season is starting. For allergy sufferers, the gut is constantly working, and the joy of sunny days can quickly be dampened.

What is an Allergy?

Allergies are overreactions of the immune system. It attacks normally harmless substances from the environment by triggering inflammatory responses and producing antibodies. Triggers can include pollen, house dust mites, mold, animal hair, or insect venom, which can lead to itchy eyes, runny or congested nose, asthma symptoms, or skin rashes.

The Four Types of Allergies

Most people suffer from a Type I allergy (immediate type). The immune system reacts within seconds with hay fever, asthma, or skin reactions.

Type II allergies (cytotoxic type) are often triggered by medications. The reaction occurs within hours or days and destroys the body's own cells.

Type III allergies (immune complex type) occur when antibodies and antigens form complexes that trigger further defense processes and harmful enzymes, e.g., in allergic vasculitis.

Type IV allergies (delayed type) appear only after hours or days, e.g., in allergic contact eczema or transplant rejection.

Alarm in the Gut

About 80% of immune cells are located in the gut and are in close communication with our gut microbiota. This can produce anti-inflammatory signaling molecules and minimize inflammation. Studies show that non-breastfed children and C-section babies are more likely to develop allergies. They have a different bacterial composition in the gut compared to breastfed children delivered vaginally.

Gut Rehabilitation for Allergy Sufferers from Young to Old

Many allergy sufferers are unaware of the connection between gut microbiota and the immune system. Targeted gut rehabilitation can improve symptoms. It begins with gut cleansing, e.g., with the liquid, fermented product Casa Sana DARMREINIGUNG, which contains 23 herbal and plant extracts as well as 31 probiotic bacterial cultures to support the immune system. The rebuilding of the mucous membranes occurs in the second step through essential amino acids (Casa Sana MAXIAMIN) and the probiotic supplementation with Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria (Lactobact PREMIUM).

Conclusion

Allergies are divided into four types. Most people suffer from the immediate type, triggered by pollen, house dust mites, animal hair, or insect venom. Typical symptoms include runny nose, allergic asthma, and skin rashes. Targeted gut rehabilitation can provide relief, as the gut and immune system work closely together.
