Questions about intestinal health
What are probiotics?
Our human intestines are home to thousands of different strains of bacteria. They all help us with digestion, produce vitamins and other health-promoting substances, and support our immune system.
Probiotics are preparations containing live, beneficial bacterial cultures that support our intestinal bacteria in their important tasks.
What does a balanced diet look like?
A balanced diet consists of 4-5 meals a day with fresh fruit and vegetables, ideally seasonal and locally sourced. Whole grain products and nuts can provide the intestines with important fiber. Fish or small amounts of meat should be on the plate 1-2 times a week. It is important to eat healthy fats, such as good olive oil. Be sparing with salt and sugar. Herbs can help give food the right taste. It is also important to drink enough, 1-2 liters of water or unsweetened tea a day. Avoid fast food, ready meals and very fatty foods.
How do I recognize a high-quality probiotic?
Our stomach acid helps us digest food and kills pathogens that we ingest through food. Unfortunately, it also kills the good, biologically active bacteria.
To avoid this and to make biologically active preparations effective, high-quality probiotics are protected from stomach acid by special protective mechanisms, such as an acid-resistant capsule shell (e.g. DRcaps®) or microencapsulation (e.g. INTELICAPS®).
In order for biologically active bacterial cultures to work optimally in the intestine, they should be of human origin and produced under high quality standards!
When should you take the products?
Biologically active products are usually taken when we experience physical discomfort in our everyday lives. The most obvious signs of a disturbed bacterial colonization are digestive problems (e.g., irritable bowel syndrome), as these are easily attributed to our intestines. However, it is becoming increasingly clear that many other complaints can also have their origins in the intestines. Probiotics are already being successfully used to treat increased susceptibility to infections, skin problems, and nervous disorders. International research is also focusing on other areas of application.
It is recommended to have your symptoms examined by a therapist in order to receive the best possible treatment.
How long should I take the products?
The duration of use of biologically active preparations varies greatly from individual to individual and is influenced by many different factors. Important factors include diet (especially fiber intake), medication intake (e.g., antibiotics), and physical activity.
However, based on long-term feedback from experts and users, one can see that the average duration of use is approximately 3 – 6 months.
Can I take the products together with other medications?
There is nothing wrong with it, and in some cases there is even more to be said for it. However, the medication should be taken at intervals of 2 hours.
If in doubt, contact your doctor.
The more bacteria in a product the better?
Biologically active preparations are offered in different concentrations. The numbers vary between several hundred thousand and many billions of bacterial cultures.
As in many other areas of life, more is not always better. Many manufacturers use a high number of germs in their preparations because the bacterial strains are not specifically protected from stomach and bile acids. Bacteria that arrive alive at their destination, the intestine, settle in free spaces on the intestinal mucosa. As soon as the spaces on the intestinal wall are occupied, the bacteria are transported further with the stool and excreted. It is important that the bacterial strains that have settled are fed with prebiotic (fiber-rich) foods.
Does the intestine have to get used to taking in beneficial bacteria?
Although biologically active preparations are generally very well tolerated, mild flatulence or diarrhea may occur when you first start taking them. However, these are harmless and usually disappear on their own within a few days.
To avoid these problems, experts recommend starting with half of the recommended daily portion (“gradually increasing”). Taking the medication during a meal may also result in better tolerance.
Do I have to change my eating habits during a colon cleanse?
In general, it is a good idea to eat a balanced diet rich in fiber. This means that you should eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grain products, nuts, etc. Make sure to use regional and seasonal foods wherever possible. Fiber cannot be absorbed by the small intestine and travels further into the large intestine. Here it is metabolized by a variety of bacteria. Short-chain fatty acids are produced, which help to regenerate and build up intestinal cells.
Can I take fructo-oligosaccharides if I have fructose intolerance?
Many probiotic supplements contain FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides). These are fibers that serve as "food" for probiotic bacteria. Even in low concentrations, FOS can promote probiotic bacteria. We have kept the added amount of FOS so low that even users with fructose intolerance can use these products.
How long do I have to take the probiotic supplements?
Treatment with biologically active bacterial cultures should be continued for at least three months. Diseases that originate in the gut and are associated with intestinal microbiota imbalance require some time to recover. In most cases, the disease has developed over a longer period of time.
How often can I take probiotic supplements from other medications?
Please leave a gap of 2 hours between taking medication and biologically active preparations. It doesn't matter what time of day you take our probiotic preparations or whether you take them before or after a meal. The bacteria are specially protected from stomach and bile acids, so they definitely reach the site of action in the intestine.
What are pre-, pro- and postbiotic preparations?
Prebiotic supplements provide nutrients to biologically active bacteria. This primarily refers to dietary fiber. This cannot be absorbed in the small intestine and passes into the large intestine. The colon bacteria metabolize the dietary fiber, producing short-chain fatty acids, which in turn serve as nutrients for the intestinal cells. Examples of dietary fiber include inulin, fructo-oligosaccharides, and resistant starch. Inulin is found in chicory, Jerusalem artichokes, garlic, and onions. Fructo-oligosaccharides are found in fruit, and resistant starch is formed when cooked potatoes or pasta cool. Prebiotic additives are added to biologically active capsules to directly supply the biologically active bacteria they contain with nutrients.
Biologically active preparations are products containing bacterial cultures that colonize humans. There are now a wide variety of bacterial cultures for the intestinal microbiota (older intestinal flora) or even for the oral microbiota. Biologically active preparations can contain active (live bacteria) or passive bacteria (e.g., cell wall components). A distinction is also made between single-strain (containing only one bacterial strain) and multi-strain (containing multiple bacterial strains) preparations.
Postbiotic bacterial products are the metabolic products produced by bacteria. A distinction is made here primarily between short-chain fatty acids, also known as lactic acid. Short-chain fatty acids include acetic acid, propionic acid, and butyric acid. There are now preparations available that have been used successfully in certain diseases. However, a balanced diet rich in fiber and a biologically active preparation can ensure that the production of postbiotic metabolic products is stimulated.
What is the advantage of acacia fiber over flaxseed?
Unlike flaxseed, acacia fiber doesn't swell, meaning patients won't experience constipation after taking it. However, you should still pay attention to how much you drink if you're following a high-fiber diet. Acacia fiber powder is also odorless and tasteless.
Which laboratory can I contact for stool tests?
Many doctors and alternative practitioners already work with stool labs. A visit to a therapist is advisable for targeted therapy and advice following the stool test. The prophylaxis can be continued in the winter months of the second year of life."
Can I give Casa Sana Bauch Gut drops to my child because of the peppermint?
In our product, the essential oils are in minimal doses and mixed with various other ingredients. The peppermint oil is not applied directly to the mucous membranes on its own.
Phytotherapeutic products are designed to achieve the best possible health effect in minimal doses with various ingredients, rather than using individual medicinal plants in high doses. Possible side effects are minimal or non-existent.
“Casa Sana Bauch Gut” is a product with 4 different traditional plants that support each other in their effects. At 17 mg/100 ml, the essential peppermint oil is 100x lower than a dose that can cause possible side effects. Even if the child were to drink the entire bottle, it would not cause respiratory problems.
Mothers who stir “Casa Sana Bauch Gut” into liquids reduce possible side effects by a factor of 100.
Our producer pays particular attention to children's products. These are manufactured with the highest quality, effectiveness and safety. This manufacturer has been on the market for over 20 years in more than 50 countries around the world.
The medicinal plants used are free of pesticides, fertilizers and heavy metals. No genetic modifications are carried out! Special extraction processes are used to ensure that precisely defined amounts of the active plants are contained - without added alcohol. No artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners are used. The products are gluten-free, so that children who suffer from celiac disease can also use the products.
Some people often only look at individual ingredients, which can certainly be dangerous. However, due to our long phytotherapeutic experience, we can assure you that this product is absolutely safe for children in terms of its ingredients and concentration.
For children from 0 years.
Can I take the Casa Sana INTESTINAL CLEANSING during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
The Casa Sana INTESTINAL CLEANSING is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to the 23 herbal and plant extracts, some of which can trigger contractions or make breastfeeding more difficult. For example, sage leaves, elderflowers and linden blossoms inhibit the breastfeeding process.
Can I take Casa Sana INTESTINAL CLEANSING if I have acute inflammation?
Casa Sana INTESTINAL CLEANSING should not be used in cases of acute inflammation. Wait until the inflammatory attack subsides before using Casa Sana INTESTINAL CLEANSING. After the inflammatory attack, rebuild the intestine in the long term with amino acids (Casa Sana MAXIAMIN) and Lactobact FORTE.
Is it true that the Casa Sana INTESTINAL CLEANSING hisses when opened and tastes a little sour?
The Casa Sana INTESTINAL CLEANSING is a fermented preparation that fizzes slightly when opened and can also have a sour taste. This is normal. The reason for this is that the bacterial strains it contains convert the added molasses, and lactic acid and short-chain fatty acids are produced. The lactic acid acidifies the pH value of the intestine and the short-chain fatty acids serve as nutrients for the intestinal cells.
What is recommended for ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease?
Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are chronic inflammatory diseases. This means that these diseases are permanent (chronic) and recur in bouts. By taking biologically active preparations, you can ensure that the inflammatory attacks occur at longer intervals and the quality of life of the patient is improved. We recommend taking Lactobact FORTE , a probiotic preparation that is specifically designed for chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, in combination with Casa Sana MAXIAMIN to build up the intestinal mucosa.
Lactobact FORTE study situation :
- Yan et al. 2020: Probiotics and probiotic-derived functional factors
- Emamie et al. 2020: The effects of probiotics, prebiotics and synbiotics on the reduction of IBD complications, a periodic review during 2009-2020

With Lactobact JUNIOR DROPS we wanted to offer an alternative to powder to make it easier for you and your children to take and to make your daily routine easier.
Detailed information:
How does Lactobact LDL-CONTROL work and are there any interactions with medications?
Lactobact LDL-CONTROL lowers high cholesterol levels in a natural way. Normally, the liver produces bile acids from cholesterol and releases them into the small intestine. In order not to use up too much energy, the bile acids are transported back to the liver after their work is done. This is where Lactobact LDL- CONTROL comes into play. Its unique bacterial strain Lactobacillus plantarum LPLDL ® changes the bile acids so that they are not transported back to the liver and are excreted via the intestine. The liver has to produce new bile acids, which requires cholesterol. The liver takes this from the blood and cholesterol levels are lowered naturally.
Since many drugs are metabolized by the liver, the question arises as to whether Lactobacillus plantarum LPLDL ® can interact with drugs or change them. But this concern is unfounded. Clinical studies show that the active ingredients of other drugs are not affected by the bacteria.
Study situation:
- Costabile et al. 2017: An in vivo assessment of the cholesterol-lowering efficacy of Lactobacillus plantarum LPLDL in normal to mildly hypercholesterolaemic adults
Can you open Casa Sana MAXIAMIN?
The capsules can be opened and stirred into yoghurt or juice, but the sulfur-containing amino acids have a very strong taste of their own.
Which medication can I take if I have histamine intolerance?
There are histamine-producing, histamine-inhibiting and neutral bacterial strains. Histamine-producing strains include Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus fermentum, Lactobacillus lactis, Enterococcus faecium, Escherichia coli and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus.
Examples of histamine-lowering bacterial strains include Bifidobacterium infantis and Bifidobacterium longum.
All other Bifidobacteria strains are neutral, as are Lactobacillus gasseri, Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Lactobacillus salivarius.
Lactobact PREMIUM is the preparation that is best used for histamine intolerance. It contains the most bacterial strains that can reduce histamine or are neutral. To build up the intestinal mucous membranes, we recommend Casa Sana MAXIAMIN .
Where do the amino acids in Casa Sana MAXIAMIN come from?
The amino acids are obtained from fermented corn and are very well tolerated. Casa Sana MAXIAMIN is used to build up the intestinal mucous membranes. The body can absorb the eight essential amino acids directly because they are in pure crystalline form and do not have to be broken down by the body. In addition, the eight essential amino acids are supported by biotin and zinc.
Can I take Lactobact omni FOS if I have thyroid problems?
Lactobact omni FOS contains vegan vitamin B12 from chlorella algae. Because chlorella is a freshwater algae, it contains very little iodine. This supplement can therefore be used safely for thyroid disorders.
Which probiotic preparation can I take during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Studies show that the use of probiotic preparations from the third trimester of pregnancy makes sense in order to prepare the vaginal microbiota for birth and to give the child as healthy a start as possible. We recommend Lactobact PREMIUM with nine different bacterial strains and zinc. This preparation can also be used during breastfeeding.
Does DentaSan ProbioPROTECT replace brushing your teeth?
No, DentaSan ProbioPROTECT does not replace brushing your teeth or a healthy, balanced diet. This preparation supports our oral microbiota and helps to bring it back into balance. Inflammation of the gums and periodontal tissue can be promoted by pathogenic bacteria. The 3 biologically active strains minimize inflammation and restore the oral microbiota.
